Here´s a map of the area. The distance between Ulricehamn and Husaby is about 100 kilometres . We´re gonna follow river Ätran northwards for about 30 km´s - that area has a lot of rune stones. Then we enter the 'megalith country' - that part is about 40 km´s, while the last part - between the churches of Varnhem and Husaby, is a little bit less than 30 km´s.

Well, first of all we have to scroll down the map to the bottom, because that´s where it all starts.

Husaby is the birthplace of Swedish Christianity. This is where Olof Skötkonung got baptized by the English missionary Sigfrid around year 1000 AD. A rune stone and the well.

Skälvum church is worth a visit.

Lundsbrunn is an old spa.

A rune stone outside Eggby church.

The lakes of the Valle-district.

Varnhem church and the ruins of the monastery. Burialsite of some medieval kings and Birger Jarl - the founder of Stockholm.

From Broddetorp we´ll go down to lake Hornborga, which is one of northern Europes finest birdlakes.

Broddetorp church had a beautiful gilded altar, that is now at the Museum of National Antiquities in Stockholm.

Håkantorp rune stone.

Rössberga : passage grave and a stone cist.

Djupadalen is a place of geological interest.

Karleby is famous for its passage graves.

On Ålleberg there´s a gliderschool and a nice view. At the foot of the hill they found a similar goldcollar as in Möne. There´s a ruin of a roundchurch nearby.

Before continuing northwards we´ll look at the passage graves in Luttra.

Turning right in Kinnarp will take us to Vårkumla. Rune stone and stone circle by the church. Two big passage graves further ahead.

West of Kinnarp there are two rune stones not far from each other. In Slutarp there is a dolmen. Just north of Slutarp is a fine passage grave.

Then there´s the little snake-rune stone and the stone circle.

In Åsarp you will find the beautiful Olsbrostone. A little bit further north is Ekehagens Prehistoric Village situated.

Trädet / Kölaby : a stone circle and rune stones.

Next to Humla church is half a rune stone.

Blidsbergs churchyard also houses some rune stones.

Möne, a few kilometers to the west, is the finding-place of a magnificent goldcollar. There´s also a rune stone.

Dalum has two fine rune stones outside the church.

Halfways to Dalum is another rune stone.  On the other side of the road - an Iron Age gravefield. Then one more rune stone.

Next to come is Timmele and the traces of the old parallel roads, that gave the district its name : Redvägs härad.

The first place is Vist, with its rune stone.
