Lewis Chessmen
78 chess pieces were found on the shore of Uig Bay
in 1831. They are made from the tusks of the walrus, and they probably
date from the 12th century.
11 of the pieces are at display in the
National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, while the other 67 are in London,
at the British Museum.
They are very expressive....
