Þorkell placed this stone
in memory of Gunni, his son, who died in battle when kings fought each
other. |
There is a stone in Århus
Museum, Jutland, Denmark, which has the following inscription : Gunnulfr
and Eygautr and Aslakr and Hrolfr raised this stone in memory of Ful,
their partner, who died when kings fought. Is this the same battle
as the one mentioned on the Råda stone ? Maybe the men died in the famous
sea battle of Svolder in 1000 AD, when the Swedes and the Danes joined
forces, to kill the Norweigan king Olof Tryggvesson..... |
