Älvsborgs fästning |
Situated in the mouth of Göta river, slightly
west of Göteborg, this was a very important stonghold. Built in the
end of the 16th century, captured by the Danes in the beginning of the
17th century - Sweden had to pay a huge ransom to get it back.... The
province of Halland used to belong to Denmark, and the province of Bohuslän
was Norwegian, so the town of Göteborg, which was busy getting built
during this time, was surrounded by enemies.... |
