Like the previous and the next rune stone, this one dates from the era of the Great Migration; during a time when they didn't bother to use any signs to show where one word ends and the next one begins. Hence the difficulty to know the exact meaning of the inscription.... There have been speculations if these stones were raised by homecoming Heruls, but it's not 100% sure. The Istaby rune stone is now at the Museum of National Antiquities in Stockholm.
